Community Climate Coordinator (F/M/D)

HELVETAS Laos is a development organization operating in Laos since 2001. Our vision is a just world in which all men and women determine the course of their lives in dignity and security, sustainably using environmental resources. 

We are looking for a Community Climate Coordinator For our Governance in Water and Environment to increase Resilience & Adaptation to Climate Change (GiWEAC or YOU GO II) Project. The position is based in the Vientiane office but includes opportunities to travel to local/field in other provinces. The contract is for 1 year initially but with the possibility for extension to a total of 3 years (until 2026).

Main Tasks

Community Climate coordinators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  • She/he works collaboratively with the YOU GO/GiwEAC team and project partners to provide technical advice, design, campaign, and outreach to promotion and delivery of climate action and resilience response within the target community and school, as well as, raising awareness about sustainability through effective collaboration and communication.
  • She/he will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, and promote sustainable practices within the community.
  • Work closely with local government officials, community organizations, businesses/private sector, and residents to identify opportunities for climate action and facilitate collaboration among stakeholders. 
  • Support the Zero Waste-Lao and PONRE in carrying out awareness and mobilising the citizens to engage and participate in climate actions at the village level.
  • Work closely with these stakeholders to ensure that climate action efforts are aligned and that resources are effectively utilized. This may involve attending meetings, coordinating with other departments, and collaborating on joint projects and initiatives. 
  • Support projects and IPs in launching its awareness of the organization’s mission through community outreach activities at the village level.
  • Support to outreach to youth and communities including assisting community and youth to prepare the proposal for EOP.
  • Support the ZWL to collect, compile, and analyse the proposals submitted by VA and Youth including participation in the screening process and selection process.
  • Monitoring the EOP implementation at the community level and report on the progress of EOP
  • Support the team in providing coaching support and follow-up, organize feedback workshops, and prepare a report.
  • Coordinate for sharing tools, methodologies, and documentation on capacity development and support to organizations and partners via available communication/social network channels such as pamoja, HELVETAS Laos website, etc.
  • Apply, promote, and help to improve the HELVETAS Laos Code of Conduct and policies within own behavior & actions, and work with team, partners, and target groups. 
  • Willing to step into tasks as needed and requested by Helvetas management

 

Profile/Qualifications

  • A university degree or other suitable qualification in Environment, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture and Forest management, economics, or a related field.
  • Good Experiences in community coordination, including youth-led climate engagement.  
  • Experience in practising and being involved in climate justice, environmental issues, and skills development, specifically as they relate to youth and the communities of rural and remote areas. 
  • Ability to assess, analyze & provide oversight in activity implementation, coordination, and networking.  
  • At least 3 years of experience in the development of NGOs, Government, and CSOs 
  • Experience working and collaborating with the Lao government, CSO/NPA, INGOs, youth networks, youth groups, and the community.
